Mountains and Valleys

I've come to the conclusion that being the kind of person who can just get up and go halfway across the world is pretty darn cool.  The only way you could actually do this is to have nothing holding you in one place. It's freeing and liberating.

But at the same time, the fact that you don't have anything or anyone keeping you in a certain place can also be... lonely. You don't have anyone to take care of (which can be nice) and you don't have anyone to take care of you. When you're sick and can't move, no one is going to help you get medicine. When you're wanting to catch up with your shows, no one else is there to discuss and enjoy it with you. It can be sad sometimes.

Sure, you continue to maintain your past friendships via Skype and Facebook but you will also need to make new friends. This can sometimes be exhausting and even costly.

But it can be amazing too! It's a challenging growing experience and there is great value in that. In order for us to grow, we need to put ourselves in a position that stretches us. We need to place ourselves in situations that are uncomfortable and where we are NOT the best. Being in this place can be lonely, because the fact is that you made this choice and you will follow through with your decision even if no one else comes along for the ride.

Life is a never ending game of Give and Take. You need to give up one thing in order to get another. You can never have everything you want at the same time. There's always going to be something to leave behind, to trade, to live without, to neglect in order to attain something else. And it's all a part of the Incredible Journey.

  1. You are so brave and I'm so very proud of you It takes an independently strong willed person to venture out into the unknown all by themselves and there's only a handful of people like you. You are not only living life by immersing yourself in new cultures/ language but you are teaching others as well...positively touching lives and making new friends. I know I'm not with you physically but I'm always by your side with love and in spirit, supporting you in your "Incredible Journey" You are my HERO

  2. Things change regardless of whether or not you are the one who brought on that change.

Either way, you are awesome for escaping being content with comfort.
